Différence fisiologiche.
Cio che si è detto delle differenze morfologiche razziali
vale, analogamente, per le differenze fisiologiche. Anche per i
fenorneni fisiologici si tratta di diversità quantitative ο di fre
quenza, dipendenti spesso da fattori ambientali. Accenniamo aile
più importanti.
Il saiigue puc^ presentare sostanze differenti nei diversi in
dividui che rendono in certi casi impossibile ο pericolosa la tra
sfusione. Alcune dî tali sostanze sono già state identificate; altre
sono in via di identificazione. In base aile sostanze già cono
sciute, si sono riuniti gli Uomini in gruppi, chiamati gruppi
sanguigni, che si distinguono con le lettere : A, Β, AB, O. Si
è indagato corne tali gruppi sanguigni si ripartiscono fra gli
Uomini, allo scopo di accertarsi se esiste una corrispondenza
fra la razza, determinata in base ai caratteri antropologici (mor
fologici e fisiologici) e la compoeizione sanguigna. Si sono fatte
cosi classificazioni razziali serologiche, di cui la più compléta,
riteniamo, è quella dellOTTEMBERG, che riproduciamo qui
sotto 13.

piezza per lutte le forme di organismi. Per alcune infatti sareb
be stata assai limitata : per es. per le forme che da ternpi remo
tissimi si sono conservât i uguali (Lingula, Lingulella, Crania,
Scorpioni, Nautili, ecc.), per altre l'evoluzione sarebbe stata mol
to più ampia (per es. i casi sopra considérât!), e, in qualche easo,
essa avrebbe varcato addirittura la classe, conte, per es., nell'am
bito, forse, dei Vertebrali. %
L'evoluzione, dunque, oltre il « tipo » presentemente, stando
ai soli dati di fatto, non avrebbe, almeno a nostro modesto giu
dizio, nessun indizio positivo. Taie evoluzione, per il momento,
è soltanto un postulato délia mentalità trasformista che corri
sponde perô, diciamolo pure, spesso, alla mentalità naturalistica.
Ma, a m m es sa la probabilità scientifica di trasformazioni
dell'ampiezza sopraindicata, anche non eccedente il « tijto » o, se
si vuole, la « classe » sistematica, il problema delle origini del
corpo uraano per evoluzione, sotto l'aspetto scientifico, è posto.
Infatti l'Uomo e gli Antropoidi sono compresi, sotto l'aspet
to iïsio-iιtorfologîco, non soltanto nelFambito del « tipo » siste
matico (Cordati), ma in quello del « sotto-tipo » (Vertebrati),
délia « classe » (Mammiferi) e deH'« ordine » (Primati) e inco
minciano a distinguersi soltanto al Ivvello delle dififerenze che ca
ratterizzano la famiglia, se non addirittura, corne vogliono al
cuni, a quelle del genere 53.

serve a tutti gli scopi. La mano delie scimmie présenta una for
ma specializzata, a seconda del genere. Il piede dell'Uomo ha
una struttura che gli permette di sostenere la persona eretta e
di incedere camminando; il piede delle scimmie è un piede-arti
glio ο più propriamente una mano che serve per arrampicarsi.
Notevoli diversità esistono in tutte le altre parti dell'orga
nismo, specialmente nel sistema nervoso che appaiono anche
dalla forma del cranio.
Il cranio dell'Uomo ha la parte cerebrale molto più svi
luppata délia parte facciale; il contrario avviene nelle scimmie.
La capacità cranica média degli Uomini è di 1.400 cmc. ;
quella massima delle scimmie è di 620 cmc.
La front e degli Uomini è bene sviluppata, e si eleva con
siderevolmente al di sopra delle orbite; la front e delle scimmie
è sfuggente e rimane nascosta dietro gli archi orbitali. Questi,
nelle scimmie, sono enormemente sviluppati, si da costituire una
specie di visiera ( torus .supraorbitalis) ; nell'Uomo invece questa
particolarità è poco fréquente e meno sviluppata.
Differenze sensibili si notano anche nella dentizione.
Nelle scimmie, i denti anteriori hanno corone taglienti e gli
incisivi, i canini e i premolari inferiori sono molto sviluppati,
rappresentando in questi animali sia un mezzo di offesa sia
un apparato per la nutrizione. Tutta la morfologia dell'arcata
dentaria e délia faccia è in relazione con la morfologia dell'ap
parato dentario : la faccia è proiettata aU'innanzi a guisa di mu
so ed è sempre più sviluppata neU'adulto ; le branche dell'arcata
dentaria sono parallèle, conferendo a quest'ultima la forma di
un U.
Nell'Uomo, al contrario, la parte tagliente délia dentizione
è ridotta a vantaggio délia parte bugnata; questa riduzione in
fluisce sia sul volume, sia sul numéro degli elementi taglienti.
Gli incisivi e i canini sono piccali, e questi ultimi non formano
più una specie di uncino ; i premolari e il primo premolare infe
riore, che in tutte le scimmie hanno la forma di un rasoio ta
gliente, presentano la corona con tubercoli. Contemporaneamente
a questa « molarizzazione » dei denti, si ha un accorciamento
délia faccia e délia mascella; le branche dell'arco dentario di

che riteniamo più probabile. Indichiamo gli altri periodi cui si attribuiscono. Eh
ringsdorf, Skhul, Gibilterra, si è incerti col Wiirm ; Olmo, secondo alcuni (Bat
taglia, 1943) probabilmente Ris-Wurm secondo altri è recente ; Steinheim e Swans
combe al Riss-Wurm (Vaufrey, 1939); Quinzano, Denise, Burg St. Edmunds,
a periodi più recenti ; Piltdown al Mindel-Riss. Degli estraeuropei : Oldoway,

Per l'Africa non sappiamo nulla con certezza per ciô che
riguarda i fossili più antichi.
Si attribuiscono al Pleistocene inferiore i reperti di Kanam
e del Congo, dalla forma del tutto recente. La loro datazione
perô, per confessione degli stessi antievoluzionisti più risoluti
è tutt'altro che certa, ed è assai probabile che siano recentiA
