Indian Journal of Community Medicine Vol XXV1, No.1, Jani-Mar., 2001 PROCEEDINGS OF VIIITH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF IAPSM - GUJARAT CHAPTER Department of Preventive and Social Medicine of Government Medical College, Rajkot organized VIIIth ‘Annual Conference of [APSM- Gujarat Chapter on 16th December 2000. “A total of 115 delegates and 15 associate delegates from all 10 Medical Colleges of Gujarat were registered. Of these 100 delegates and 13 associate delegates attended the conference. ‘The conference began in the Lecture Hall of the department at 9-45 a.m. with the prayer. The renowned social worker of Rajkot, Shri Gunvantbhai Delawala, was invited as the chief guest inthe inaugural function. Dr. Vikas K. Desai, Professor and Head, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Government Medical College, Surat was awarded NINAD oration award after she delivered her oration speech on Fluorosis ~ ‘Academics to Actions. The department of Preventive and Social Medicine of Government Medical College, Surat started this award in the name of retired Professors of Gujarat who laid the foundation of the subject in Gujarat, The award is presented to a teacher of P.S.M. for his/her contribution to the subject. ‘The Dean of Govt. Medical College, Rajkot felicitated Dr. C.K. Purohit (Ex-Professor of PSM and Retired Director, P.G. Studies, B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad) and Dr. H.M. Dabhi (Assoc. Professor of PSM, Govt. Medical College, Rajkot) for their contribution in preparing Techno-feasibiity report in September 1994 for Medical College Rajkot and Medical College, Bhavnagar also. ‘A scientific session of 130 minutes was held in which the junior teachers presented 11 papers from ten medical colleges of the state, Shri H.M. Patel Memorial rotating throphy and :hree prizes were also distributed to first three ranked papers. ‘The poster competition was also arranged for the junior teachers (9 entries) and local medical students (28 entries). In both categories thee prizes were distributed to the winners. ‘The Organizing Committee presented a D.D. worth Rs. 1000i- (Rs. One Thousand Only) to the secretary of IAPSM-GC as a Token contribution to the state branch of association. General body meeting was held and various pending issues were discussed. The following office bearers ‘were unanimously elected for 2001-2002: President - Dr. B.S. Bhavsar (Rajkot) Vice-President - Dr. R.K. Bakshi (Vadodara) Secretary - Dr. Girija P. Kartha (Rajkot) Executive Members: Dr. AM. Kadri (Ahmedabad) Dr. Dipesh Parmar Jamnagar) Dr. V.V. Parmar (Surat) Dr. DM. Solanki (Vadodara) Dr, Ashish S. Banginwar (Karamsad) Dr. HM. Dabhi (Rajkot) Dr. P.B. Verma (Bhavnagar) Dr. M.P. Singh, Prof. & Head, Deptt. of PSM, Govt.
