Dear Mr. Young:
‘On bchalfof the Majority Conference ofthe New York State Senate, lam writing to express
‘concern over the current labor dispute at Mots plant in Williamson, Wayne County. With
‘unemployment rates at extreme levels in upstate New York, the high-skilled, good paying jobs
provided by the Mot plant are mor vital than ever. {urge the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group i return
“the negotiating table as quickly as possible and resolve this labor dispute
“The closure ofthe plant is having a devastating impact on the entire region, harming nt only the
305 skilled workers of the RWDSU Local 220 and their families, but the frui-based economy ofthe
region. As the second largest apple producing sate, the apple industry plays an integral roe in New
‘York's economy. And, Mott esa brand leader inthe apple industry, purchasing over 6 milion
‘bushels of apples from Wayne County each year is key to the industries continued success in New
York.
My offceis also in communication with the local executives and leadership at RWSDU where we
Ihave expressed these similar concerns and have urged a return to negotiations. From my experience
“working with Stat Applebaum and members of RWDSU, I believe them to be professional and
‘ir, 1 know there is great intrest by ll partes in getting this labor dispute resolved
As apple season quickly approaches, it becomes even more important for this resolution to get
‘resolved in prompt and fair manner I again urge a tum to negotiations. If can be of any
assistance, please let me know,
‘Sincerely,
Gobo d. Aanto
