x o più citazioni.” Si noti che questo valore riesce a cogliere sia la quantità di
articoli che un accademico ha scritto sia la frequenza con cui è citato. Non è
possibile avere un indice H elevato semplicemente pubblicando una valanga di
articoli di scarso valore o un numero ridotto di articoli che sono citati spesso.
L’indice H tende a crescere con l’avanzamento della carriera, motivo per cui in
molti campi gli indici H sono legati a determinati traguardi di carriera.
