At the airport – All’ aeroporto

Agente: Buongiorno Signore. Il Suo Passaporto per favore.
Officer: Good morning Sir. Your passport please.
Tu: Buongiorno. Certo, ecco qui il mio passaporto e la mia carta di imbarco.
You: Good morning. Sure, here is my passport and my boarding pass.
Agente: La motivazione del suo viaggio?
Officer: Reason for your trip?
Tu: Sono qui per affari.
You: I’m here on business.
Agente: Quanto tempo ha intenzione di stare in Italia?
Officer: How long are you going to stay in Italy?
Tu: Ho intenzione di stare circa 2 settimane.
You: I’m going to stay almost 2 weeks.
Agente: Ok, Le auguro un buon soggiorno.

During the flight – Durante il volo

Hostess: Buongiorno, vuole qualcosa da bere?
Hostess: Good morning, would you like something to drink?

You: Yes, thank you. I’d like a glass of wine.

Operator: You have to exit the airport and turn right. There are cabs, there.

Addetto: abbiamo un ufficio noleggio qui.
Operator: We have a rental shop here.

Subject pronouns

io – I noi – we
tu – you voi – you
Lei – you formal
lui – he loro – they

To Have – Avere

io ho – I have noi abbiamo – we have

tu hai – you have voi avete – you have
Lei ha – you have (formal)
lui ha – he has loro hanno – they have
lei ha – she has

To make a verb negative, place the word NON directly before it.

Esempio: Mario non ha soldi (Mario doesn’t have money)

Tu non hai una macchina (you don’t have a car)

To make a verb interrogative, in writing simply add a question mark to the end of
the sentence; in speaking, the pitch of the voice rises at the end of the sentence.

In Italian the verb form itself identifies the subject. For this reason, subject
pronouns are usually not expressed.

Esempio: ho una Maserati (I have a Maserati)

Hai buon gusto! (you have good taste!)

Abbiamo parenti in Italia (we have relatives in Italy)
