In the joint consultative commission meeting between the Indian and Bangladeshi foreign ministers that took place virtually on 29 September, India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar waxed eloquent about the joys of connectivity between the two neighbours, citing the revival of several disused rail links as well as building new ones. Jaishankar also sought to put the lid on his colleague, Home minister Amit Shah’s remarks describing illegal Bangladeshi migrants as “termites”, pointing out that the need of the hour was to encourage legal migration.
