Returning to the podcast is Zürich-trained Jungian analyst, author, and lecturer J. Gary Sparks.He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Bucknell University in Lewisberg, Pennsylvania, a Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in pastoral counseling from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, and a Diploma in Analytical Psychology from the C.G. Jung Institute Zürich where his thesis advisor was Jung’s closest student and collaborator, Marie-Louise von Franz, and his training analysts included Jung’s grandson, Dieter Baumann, and Jung’s close friend and confidante, C.A. Meier.Mr. Sparks has been a lecturer and seminar presenter at the C.G. Jung Foundation of Ontario, Canada, and a teacher for the analyst training program at the Research & Training Centre for Depth Psychology According to C.G. Jung & Marie-Louise von Franz in Zürich. In January of this year, he presented Jung & Pauli: The Living Spirit in Matter to The Cambridge Jungian Circle and has made that video available here. He is now teaching An Introduction to Jung’s Red Book online every Tuesday in June through The Jung Center Houston.Currently, he is in private practice in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he also conducts a variety of study groups. He is the author of At the Heart of Matter: Synchronicity & Jung’s Spiritual Testament, and Valley of Diamonds: Adventures in Number & Time with Marie- Louise von Franz. He is the editor of Jungian analyst Dr. Edward F. Edinger’s book, Ego & Self: The Old Testament Prophets from Isaiah to Malachi, and co-editor with Daryl Sharp of Edinger’s Science of the Soul: A Jungian Perspective. His new book, Carl Jung & Arnold Toynbee: The Social Meaning of Inner Work, was published late last year by Inner City Books and is the subject of our talk today.This interview was recorded on Friday, June 15, 2018.
