In this episode, Ann Gaffigan, former American Record Holder in the Steeple Chase, Co-Founder of Women Talk Sports, and business owner, discusses her background in athletics from balancing competitive soccer and running throughout high school to the transition from high school to collegiate running. She reflects on being apart of history as she ran the steeple chase the first year the NCAA had it as a women’s event. Ann reveals the power of mental strength in her 2004 Olympic Trials Race, in which she set the former American Record. She describes how she turned the disappointment of her 2008 Olympic Trials Race to constructive action as she has helped raise awareness for gender equality in women’s athletics. Ann explains how Women Talk Sports is changing the face of women’s athletics. She offers advice on how to balance motherhood, training, and work. Lastly, Ann previews upcoming projects for her web development business, Gazelle Incorporated.
