Abbeyfield Kent
Host Volunteers’ Lunch
This month saw The Abbeyfield Kent Society host their first ever Volunteers’ Lunch. The
aim was to show their appreciation for all the hard work and commitment that volunteers
put in across all the residential homes, sheltered housing and HQ. Volunteers were
welcomed with a drinks reception and were then treated to a splendid buffet lunch, with
sumptuous desserts such as profiteroles and strawberry meringue pudding. Mary Morley’s
harp playing added to the ambience.
After tea and coffee were served, Chairman Bobby Barnes
gave an inspiring speech, thanking and congratulating all
the volunteers for their loyalty and support for all the
residents in the homes and sheltered houses. He emphasised
what a valued part of the Society they were, and that it
would be impossible for the Society to continue
without them.
Next, Chief Executive Leon Steer took to the stage.
He commented, “I have dealt with employment issues for
over 20 years, and some of the most committed people in
terms of effort and tenacity have been volunteers. It is
their passion and motivation that spurs them on.” CONTINUED...
