Coalition of Norwalk Public Schools Bargaining Groups Mr. Glenn Iannacone January 19, 2010 Chairperson Norwalk Board of Education 125 East Avenue Norwalk, CT 06852 Dear Mr. Iannacone, The purpose of this letter is to inform the Norwalk Board of Education about the high level of frustration and concern we are experiencing regarding the present cabinet-level Central Office leadership. It is incumbent upon the members of the Board of Education bargaining units to provide the services necessary to deliver a quality education to the students who attend the Norwalk Public Schools. Yet, the lack of respect and support from those we count on at Central Office has made it extremely difficult for us to perform our jobs. Many of us, in union leadership positions, have served the Norwalk Public Schools for decades. We have seen good times and bad times but nothing as bad as what we face today. We have no Superintendent, and many of the top leadership positions are being held by interim appointments. Some of these people came to us after having less than successful careers in other school systems. How did they obtain these positions? It seems that we have taken on other districts’ problems. Worst of all many dedicated and successful Norwalk employees have been passed over. We are in the midst of a search for a new Superintendent who should be able to select his/her own team. We should not saddle the new Superintendent with the present leadership, The present leadership does not reflect the true feelings of the dedicated employees of the Norwalk Public schools. In conclusion, because we have no confidence in the present top leadership in the District, we look forward to a clean slate when the new Superintendent arrives in order for the 11,000 students of the Norwalk Public Schools to maximize their instructional potential.
