HITACHI MAN-B&W No. : HSD-B0106 == —_ DIESEL ENGINE SERVICE DATA ___ pare : 31-07-2001 Fuel Pump Roller Guide Crack 60~90 MC Engines As per the 60~90 MC engines, crack development, as shown in Fig. 1, has been observed in a number of roller guides at the dry-docking after 30-40,000 running hours. One case of disintegration of the roller guide has been reported in the other manufacturer's B&W engine. As the stresses at the location in question are very low, especially for non-umbrella type roller guides, there is very low possibility of crack further development and following breakage. Roller guides of the umbrella type delivered since 1999 are designed with larger roundings in the said area, in order to increase the safety margin against crack development, and no reports of cracking have been received since this change was made. In view of the above, we recommend that magnetic particle testing is carried out on roller guides with 20-25,000 running hours. If cracks are observed, we recommend that they be ground away with a rounding of Max.4 mm, in accordance with Fig. 1. If the cracks cannot be removed using this method, the roller ' guide should be replaced when convenient. REMARKS.
