Jennifer patted her expanding abdomen and smiled.
She was so lucky.
Not only had she and Rick both survived intense cases of the viral pandemic that had swept the planet seven years ago, but they’d found each other, fallen in love, and married. And now their first child was on the way. In a mere three months, they’d meet the amazing little person their love had created.
She couldn’t wait!
But today she was on her way to a friend’s house for what she considered a class in Motherhood 101… a play date with a group of toddlers and their moms, all of whom were also pandemic survivors. The young women had formed a bond as they recuperated from the virus in the busy New York City hospital and had pledged to stay in touch when the world returned to normal.
No matter what.
Now most of them were busy young mothers, and Jennifer was about to join their ranks.
She’d dressed with care that morning, still enjoying the novelty of elastic-front maternity pants and a flowing top in pastel pinks, greens, and blues. Her more knowledgeable friends had warned her that her feet would swell in the final months, but her favorite royal blue ballet flats still fit perfectly.
