As we started our descent over the sparkling ocean, all those clichés of sandy beaches, palm trees and never-ending sunshine suddenly became reality... but I wasn’t expecting such stunning undulating landscape. We landed on Mahé (the largest of the 115 islands scattered across the Indian Ocean) after a direct flight from the UK, then took a private transfer through the lush hills and valleys to the first of our luxury hotels.
