‘WE NEED VACCINE SATURATION’

DR GAGANDEEP KANG, professor of microbiology at CMC, Vellore, and former chair of an ICMR panel on Covid drugs and vaccines, speaks to Group Editorial Director (Publishing) Raj Chengappa on vaccine diplomacy and why Covid’s second wave should be treated differently. Excerpts:

Do you see a trend in the current second Covid wave? What is the data showing so far?

In one sentence, ‘it’s complicated’. It is components of everything—our behaviour, the variants of the virus, lack of vaccination. In terms of just the vaccine, we are on pretty solid ground.
