About this ebook
In writing this book, my initial reason was to help people let go of the past experiences that are stopping them from living a more fulfilled life. I decided to use real-life examples of challenges that people have been through and how they overcame them. This process made me realize that even though many people are going through difficult challenges daily, there are ways to rise above the hand that they have been dealt with to achieve many successes in life. We often perceive our issues as big, but the reality is that many other people's struggles are far bigger than ours. No matter how big or small our challenges are, they can be quite painful, and how we react to them will determine whether we rise beyond or become stuck at that moment. I chose to rise beyond, what do you choose?

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Creator for giving me the gift of life and for this opportunity to write a book, something that I never thought I'd be able to do.
To my parents (my number one fans), Fahdilla Mohamed and Moegmad Iegsaan Mohamed, thank you for being amazing, thank you for being there for me, thank you for being my best friends, thank you for walking beside me throughout my life, and for holding my hand and guiding me.
To my spouse and his Nezamudin Ismail and my three-year-old son Muhammad Jibreel Ismail, thank you for being who you are. Thank you for playing such an important role in my life and for supporting me throughout this journey, especially when I decided to start writing my book. Thank you for giving me the time to write, the time to grow, and the time to flourish.
To my brothers, Muhammad Yaseen and Abdul Ghaliq Mohamed. Thank you for being an integral part of my support structure.
To my mentor, Miss Ramona, thank you for being my stepping stone. When everybody looked at me as an introvert, you helped bring out the best in me. Thank you for your constant encouragement.
To my proof reader Naiema Cassiem, Lee and Justin Barker for designing my cover page, as well as all those who contributed to my book, thank you so much as you are a part of my success story.
To all those who love and care for me, you will never know how much you mean to me and what your presence has done for me. Thank you, I appreciate you!
To all those who couldn't stand my progress, thank you. It is because of you that I am inspired to be a better version of myself.
I wish you all an amazing life ahead. Always remember...Shift happens, Rise Beyond!
Introduction:
Something happened to me in 2008 that shifted my way of thinking and changed my life. For my entire childhood, I was seen as this quiet little girl who never really spoke up. I would sit in conversations and observe and listen to what was being said but I would never voice my opinion. I never wanted to sound stupid around others so my best response was silence. In 2008 I was one of twenty students who received full scholarships to study our BCom Honours at university and as part of the package, Miss Ramona was appointed as our mentor for that year. I did not know the impact that this would have on me, in fact, I did not even know what it meant to have a mentor or what a mentor was, but wow! It changed my life in ways that I could never have imagined, and that is the type of impact this I'd like to have on everyone whose path crosses mine.
I'm the eldest child and only female out of three siblings. I always felt the need to set the benchmark high so that my brothers would have something meaningful and tangible to aspire to in life. We come from a very humble home where sincerity in faith, consistency, truthfulness, and honesty was key.
My parents were extremely strict and we were taught not to hold any grudges against anyone. Whenever my brothers and I had a disagreement we were taught not to stay upset with each other for too long. As soon as my dad had knowledge of us fighting, he would insist that we apologize, kiss, and hug each other. I must admit that this was not the easiest thing to do at the time, but we always parted with smiles, laughter, and overwhelming love for each other. These values that my dad instilled in us from a very young age taught us that people are not always going to agree with our thoughts and opinions, but we should value their input despite the disagreements.
Another value that was instilled in us by our parents was the value of life. We did not have the
