Thanks for the excellent article on America’s Superliner SS United States (SM, Jan). Maybe a footnote could be inserted with regard to the asbestos issue, which was raised after the ship had been towed to Tuzla, Istanbul. After Greenpeace protests, United States had to be towed to Sevastopol in Ukraine (now part of Russia). After the asbestos was disposed of, this lovely ship was towed back to Philadelphia. Some years ago I went to see the ship, which was in a rather poor state.
