    (31 Days of Devotions)

    Dr. Robby Phelps

    Colossians 2:6-12,

"In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision

made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh,

by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God,

who raised Him from the dead."

    ~ Day 1 ~

    The Foundation

"...in whom you also are being built together

for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."

    Ephesians 2:22 (NKJV)

What do you think would happen if a house were built without any blueprints? Of course, you know there would probably be code violations, do-overs, wasted materials, injuries, and a lot of things may not be built right.

God's Word is like a set of blueprints for our life.  It has instructions, specifications, examples, and details about the way God designed us and wants us to turn out.  If a contractor or sub-contractor has a wrong or bad attitude, or doesn't care about the quality of his work, your house is not going to turn out very well.  There will be problems and maybe serious ones – problems that could be financially exorbitant, problems that could bankrupt you or completely destroy your home beyond repair.

When we build our life apart from God's Word and Promises, it's like building a house without blueprints.  It might stand for a short time, but what happens when the storms hit?  However, when we build our life on God's Word, Promises, and accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior, our life will be built on a solid foundation.  That is because Jesus never changes and never fails.  For in doing this, when the storms of life come, and they will, you can know that God is there with you because you have built the dwelling place of God, through the Holy Spirit in your life. (Ephesians 2:22)

What have you been building?  Have you built a sand castle?  What happens when the water keeps splashing and the waves of the sea keep pounding on it?  It will collapse and be crushed.  And why, because there was no solid foundation on which it was built.

When you accept Christ as Lord of your life and seek to live according to God's ways, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. (Ephesians 2:19-21)

Want to have a prosperous and successful life?  More importantly, do you want God's best for your life and His blessings?  Then, put God first in everything.  Accept Jesus Christ as Savior and apply God's principles to everything you do.  For in doing this, you will begin building your life on a solid foundation.  Everything else is like sand.  It will fail; it will fall; it will be crushed; and possibly be destroyed when the storms of life come knocking.

In an economy that is failing and in a deteriorating society, is it not better that you stand on something solid, something that will not fail? Trust Jesus today and live on the promises of God.  That is your solid foundation. Remember, God's Word is like a set of blueprints for our life.  It has instructions, specifications, examples, and details about the way God designed us and wants us to live.  Anything else is just sinking sand. (See Jeremiah 29:11 & 12)

    ~ Day 2 ~

    The Walls and the Roof

"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill,

and to destroy.  I have come that they may have

life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

    John 10:9-10

Just imagine sitting in your living room, in your favorite chair enjoying all the comforts of your brand new custom built house.  You've got the music playing and you are thoroughly enjoying a few minutes of serenity.  You admire the way the walls are painted and the way the wall coverings were designed and installed.  You can hardly believe it's yours because it's so beautiful.

So now you are sitting back in your chair enjoying what is rightfully yours in its array of comfort.  Then you hear thunder in the distance.  You look up and notice the sky turning dark.  Looks like rain, you think to yourself.  But you then notice something is missing.  The beauty and joy of the completed walls have now succumbed to an empty feeling of despair.  That's because as you look up, you notice that your house was built without a roof!

The walls and roof are built into your house to protect you from the outside elements, the heat and ultraviolet rays from the sun, the wind and the rain, or snow and ice, the cold frigid weather of the winter.  But what good is it to have a beautifully constructed foundation, floors, and walls, but no roof?

As foolish as it may seem, many people do exactly that very thing.  They set out on their life journey and begin quite well.  But as they travel along, they have that feeling something is missing.  Then they hear the thunder off in the distance.  They know the storm is coming.  But they have no roof for their protection.  They
