About this ebook

Have you ever struggled to have faith in the midst of the chaos of life?

The real world looks nothing like reality television. There’s no script to follow; there’s no editor to clean up the mistakes. No hair and make up. No stylists. The real world isn’t always pretty. It can get messy, it can test your limits and it can be confusing.

Get Real is the companion guide to a 6-week bible study that teaches what it means to have real faith in the real world. Each week looks in-depth at a different woman from the Bible to identify six different meanings for the word “real” and how they relate to faith.

You will learn that real means:
• TRUE
• ACTUAL
• GENUINE
• COMPLETE
• SIGNIFICANT
• EVERYDAY

    DEDICATION

To my girls. You have been teaching me what it means to get real since the 6th grade. We’ve had long-distance dance breaks and held hands through the deepest of heartache. Together, we’ve learned what it means to have real faith in the real world. You have given of yourselves, and you each hold a piece of my heart.

Janay, Hope, Brandy…your real faith inspires me to be a better me.

    Thank you.

    INTRODUCTION

It all started with an article. I don’t even remember where I read it, but the author complained that women have twisted the word real into permission to be hateful, sarcastic and snarky. She cited blogs and forums where women grumble and rant about their daily frustrations. She didn’t deny that being a woman, wife and/or mother is taxing. She was just frustrated with women making crude jokes and cynical comments to get a laugh. The author ended by suggesting that instead of being real, we should be grateful for what we have and the lives we lead.

The whole thing made me angry. I know what she meant. As women, we do sometimes get a little carried away. What we do is HARD, and generally speaking, we don’t get much (sometimes any) credit. Somewhere inside, we need to vent our feelings and call it like it is. Putting yourself through
