This book is for my friends who still find it  a pleasure to read. Nothing can replace the pleasure of reading. There are thoughts and emotions that can't be communicated through movies but can only be communicated through books. Entertainment technology makes exponential leaps every decade. Some people even read the books from where these movies where taken. Who knows some of these stories will be made into movies one day?

    The Scavengers

Allan Murphy just buried his Father. The families from remote states dispersed back to their homes. He thought that it must’ve been his father’s deep sorrow over his mother’s death three years ago that depression made its toll on his health. Now, he was only sixteen years old and an orphan. And the junkyard left by his father now was solely his. His uncles suggested that he sold of his junk to start his own business. He was an artist, not a business man buying and selling rusty cars and motorcycle parts, old signs, toys and antique furniture. But he thought, why sell them when he needed them for his 3d art, not necessarily sculpture but collage, assemblage many of those sort of things. The basic signature of his art was welding two readily made steel or iron parts from cars, heavy equipment or just about any metallic machine blend them artfully with other materials like fiber glass, hardwood, leather, even blue jeans fabric and highlight them with a few primary acrylic colors.

And his name as an artist became known in five nearby states. He had many breaks in the past which were exhibits in foreign countries like Japan and Australia. But that was short lived. He had many artist friends who lived with him and not with alcohol and girls. And when he had no more favorable deals, his friends one by one vanished. Now, all he had left was monetary supports from relatives from remote places. But he had to pay debts left by his father. And he paid them all.

This time six states including Iowa, his home, were in turmoil. Locally, Will Revo and Gordon Land were two powerful individuals who rose to the apex of politics. But both later became Drug Lords, competing against each other. Both had amassed great wealth. These states had farming, gensing, fur and logging business. But later the economic stability dwindled towards paralysis. There were rebels who opposed the corrupt government where both Revo and Land had been. These rebels had just cause. Among these was the rebel Gary Musa who later became a criminal, robbing people, kidnapping and committing genocide. And as these three spark trouble here and there, it was the civilians who suffered the crossfire.

The piece of land had plenty of trucks, piles of tires, Texaco and Coke signs, warehouses
