Third Reich Family Life

When Adolf Hitler and the (NSDAP — Nazi party) came to power in 1933, there began a steady transformation of the traditional family unit in the new German State. Before the Third Reich, fathers, as home patriarchs, worked in agriculture or industry, to provide the funds to support their families. Mothers typically stayed at home (with the exception of traditional female occupations such as nursing or domestics) where they maintained a cohesive and apolitical atmosphere, raising their young and keeping their households. Children were nurtured in caring surroundings, learning the moral values held by their families, while expected to follow a strict code of disciple administered by their parents.
