It didn’t matter whether they were a loved one or not, Renee Pagel put her hand up to help anyone who was struggling.

In 2006, Renee, 41, was working as a nurse practitioner and she also taught as a health instructor for an education centre.

Before starting a family, Renee had travelled aboard on medical missions.

No one was surprised that she’d followed a career that called for compassion – it was what also made her an attentive mum.

Renee had seven-year-old twins, a girl and a boy, and a three-year-old daughter.
