About this ebook

Although Naples isn't my favourite town in Florida, it is a great base to visit Big Cypress and the Everglades, and it has the added advantage of being the kind of place you can get a first rate masseuse after hours when you can barely move from driving all day.

I used to get extremely burned out in my old job and couldn't even handle finding and booking a hotel and flight or finding what to do when I did take time off. So, I thought "wouldn't it be awesome if someone would write a guide that just gave you one perfect escape; the perfect hotel, spa, flight and restaurant."

So that's what I did.

    Introduction

Hi there, I'm Pearl Howie (aka Pearl Escapes) and this is my guide to Naples in Florida.  It wasn't my favourite town in Florida, but it is a great base to visit the Everglades, the hotel was a steal, and due to very bad driving conditions I was very glad I had decided to stay here and not somewhere further from my main route.

I'll be honest, before I got the chance to go to Zumba Convention I had no intention of ever setting foot in Florida.  Why?  CSI Miami, sharks, crocodiles AND alligators, swamps… plus it seemed everyone in Florida was either an old age pensioner in a sun hat or a family of four on their way to Disneyland, and although I did enjoy Bad Boys (one of my favourite movies) it wasn't exactly an advert.  I was wrong.  So wrong, super wrong and all I could think of when I got to Clearwater Beach was… why on earth do they keep doing all these adverts for California?  Forget Malibu, this is a beach.  (And it just kept getting better.)

Yes, there are crocs, and gators and sharks and I've seen a fair few, but there are also turtles and dolphins and manatees (and flying fish and bioluminescence and horseshoe crabs) who have given me some of the best days of my life.

On my second trip to Florida I met the love of my life, so I was back six weeks later, getting to grips with a town I never expected to be in – Jacksonville.  He came to London to visit but then it would be four months before I came back to Florida and when I came back three months after that for my third Zumba Convention we were no longer together.

Right now I'm understanding that everything is perfect, even the stuff that seems really messed up… all of our problems, conversations, plans.  Because in 2014 and 2015 we talked constantly of meeting up in Vegas, travelling around Arizona, only he never felt able to go, so finally this year, in 2016 I did it alone.

A retreat came up with a teacher from Mexico I knew I wanted to study with, in Sedona, Arizona and then I went on to a native American spa where I had the most profound healing of my life.

Looking back from certain points in your life it's easy to see that everything happens perfectly, even though it can seem crazy and messed up at times.
