    Welcome

At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want. —Lao Tzu

Congratulations on your decision to connect more deeply with your core self. Connecting with your inner wisdom isn’t just something; it’s everything. This book offers practical and mystical tools for making, reviving, and maintaining the connection with you. Let’s zoom out to the big picture of why your connection to you is crucial.

Why connect with your inner self?

Connecting to your core creates an in-the-moment knowing of what is best for you, with consideration for other people and circumstances, which leads to living an authentic life, a true life for you. When you feel confident that you are living as your true self, you can live without regrets, accept mistakes as learning, and know you are aligned (most of the time!) with your core beliefs and values. And when you’re out of alignment, reconnecting with your inner self brings you back to the true you.

A close relationship with your core self is fundamental in good decision making and in creating a life you love. It’s like a compass needle leading you to make the best choices, whether they’re tiny or gigantic, as you select over and over again what you want in your life and what you want to let go.

Your brain may want to overanalyze a pending decision by using past experience as a guide and bringing to bear what you’ve learned along the way via formal and informal education. It takes conscious effort to include and validate your gut feelings as part of the process. For example, imagine that all the pros and cons on your list point toward saying yes but something doesn’t feel right about it. That’s your inner self trying to get your attention.

In order to hear your inner voice, you must listen closely, because most of the time, it’s quiet. Since all the other voices in our mind can be so loud—society, family, work—it’s helpful to have an array of tools at the ready to access the wise knowing of your core self.

If you don't go within, you go without. If you do not define yourself and carve your own path in this world, someone else will do it for you. They will tell you who you are (labels), tell you what to buy (commercials) and even tell you who to marry (thanks, Mom!). You are a unique individual. Like a snowflake, you are unlike any other on earth. Nobody has walked your path in your shoes. For this reason, only you can truly know what is best for you. You are your biggest asset.

    What is the inner voice?

The inner voice has been described in many ways. It’s a sense of what to do, It’s a feeling, It’s a quiet internal knowing, It’s a literal voice coming from inside you, It’s a sixth sense telling you what direction to go, It’s an external voice with a stern message, It’s a vision you get that always has a deep meaning, It’s a smack in the head, something that grabs your attention, It’s God’s voice over all of the other sounds.

The inner voice offers guidance and protection, provides warnings, offers direction and support when we need it. It can provide a perspective that you otherwise would not have.  No matter how you describe it, the many forms of the internal voice all have the following in common:

It’s aligned with your *higher power.

It’s ultimately for the greatest good of you and others.

It requires something from you, a change, an action or cessation of action.

    It’s ultimately helpful and beneficial.

    There’s wisdom in it.

*A note about higher power. This book is not connected with any particular religious belief except this: We believe in a higher power and believe there are many paths that lead to that power. Names we use may include God, spirit, universe. We respect the words you use to describe this higher power.

How is this book to be used?

This book is intended to provide you with tools and methods for connecting to your internal knowing, excavating your internal wisdom, and inspiring you to live from that place regularly. For the greatest benefit, our hope is that you will remain open to change and suspend judgment. For each tool or method, we suggest an exercise for you to explore using the tool. There are fifty-two approaches. Try one exercise a week for a year or in any order and time frame you wish.

Sometimes we are surprised when what we thought would not work for us turns out to be what helps us the most. All of the exercises are intended to be beneficial. Nothing within these pages will harm you; the exercises are intended to expand your thinking and feeling capacity. Our hope is that you will commit to every exercise. When you commit to the exercises, you are making a commitment to your authentic self. As a result, your life will begin to change in ways that ultimately benefit you and those around you.

There is no finish line. However, over time, you’ll learn to trust your inner guidance. You’ll come to understand that you are not alone. You have wisdom beyond your years waiting to assist you. You’ll be co-creating your life with your higher power and will access knowing beyond physical or mental limitations.

It is our belief that you can change your life one intuitive insight at a time for the greater good of you and those around you. Our wish for you is that you believe in the wisdom of your inner voice and allow it to guide you in living as your true, authentic, powerful self.

As you begin the first exercise on the next page, take a calming breath and allow yourself to sink into you.

    Create a Supportive Environment

Be careful how you are talking to yourself, because you are listening. —Lisa M. Hayes

To quiet your inner static, give yourself the inner voice you wish you had. You know what you need to hear. If you do not have a supportive inner dialog, you can change that! Affirmations and positive self-talk create a safe environment for your inner voice to be heard.

Do you have a Debbie Downer inside you? You cannot get rid of her, but with effort, you can persuade her to change her ways. Affirmations are
