    Chapter One: Who Finds

    He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the LORD.

    Proverbs 18:22

    Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.

    Proverbs 19:14

    I have said it again and again. Marriage is a good thing. God said it is good. And it is good.

    In Genesis chapter 1, we read about creation. And it is stated emphatically that God created man first. Then in chapter 2, He made his woman for him.

    In essence man was the first person of the union. As a matter of fact, the woman was made to complete the man and make him fulfilled. That means therefore that the woman was made for the man.

    Many scholars believe that the fact stated above is the reason why the responsibility of finding and choosing a spouse rests with the man.

    And the two scriptures quoted above tend to agree with that school of thought. Since the scriptures categorically stated that the person to find is the wife not the husband.

    However I will like to observe that the date of a literature has a strong influence on it. This aspect of scripture was written several years before Christ.

    At that time, womanhood was very insignificant. The man was celebrated. It was normal to place every responsibility upon the man, because the woman was reputed to be of no consequence.
