DEDICATION
This book is dedicated to my precious sister, Vicki who went to be an angel on October 15, 2008, leaving all the pain and anguish of cancer behind her to go to a place where there is no pain, only love.
and to:
My youngest sister Tishy who’s suffering has just begun. May she place all of our faith, hope and prayers into her heart and soul so that she stays strong and wins the battle.
- to all those who have suffered and gone before us, God bless you all!
And with each generation, so our souls live on and on, and our lives and all of our pain is therefore worthwhile.

FOREWORD:
When a person, any person is diagnosed with cancer, it hits like a ton of bricks. Instant emotional thought: OMG I am going to die. I am too young to die, please no, not me!
Personally I have always been two bricks short of a load, and taking that into consideration, I refused to accept a death sentence, and I certainly wasn’t afraid to go headlong into battle. Going headlong into battle is much easier for me, you see there is very little in my head to go into battle with.
I was wondering if a person were two bricks short, how many would be left in the load? I called my good friend Faye and asked her how many bricks were in a load. We worked together for years at the same building supply company in downtown Summerside and I knew she would laugh, but eventually find an answer for me. She asked Angela, another old friend who answered there are five hundred bricks per pallet. They would weigh about 2500 pounds, 500 pounds over a ton and that would be a load
What a girl.
Cancer strikes fear into everyone. It is a horrible disease and the family, friends, partners and all others in the life of the sufferer are affected and hurt for that beloved person who has been struck by such a cruel disease that puts fear right into their heart and soul.
A year before my diagnosis with lung cancer and our excursions across to Halifax, my son Steve had his own battle with cancer. When he first told me, I cried and asked God why?
I told Steven that he was young with a wife and three kids in high school, if I could, I would take this cancer from him and suffer it for him myself.
He said Why would you say that, Mom?
I answered You are young, you have three beautiful kids to raise, I am old, it is something that I would do for you if I could
.
Steve has always been the best man a person could ever know. Loving husband, the best Dad in the world, great son, and friend who has given his shirt to so many. How could this be happening? He had surgery in Charlottetown and went through several rounds of chemo. Then, not a year had passed when I was diagnosed. Steve has been in complete remission.
We all pray that someday soon there will be a cure and in the meantime we must keep putting one foot ahead of the other, keep a smile on our faces and pray that it can be beaten thanking God for each new day.
Now, I feel so much bliss in living. Poking my head out of the door on a cold winter morning, breathing in, tasting, and just feeling a new day. I look out to the side of the driveway and see only a foot of my trees poking out of the snow. The wonder of nature is that there are little leaf buds all along the tiny fragile branches, and life goes on.
Being two bricks short has helped my attitude and makes me think of a print at Community Connections, a day programme and residential and work placement for people with disabilities here in Summerside it tells us, and I quote:
"Our lives are determined not by what life brings to us, or demands of us, which may at times be cruel, but by the attitude we bring to our lives. It is a catalyst, a spark that starts a spark in others to more and more people who pass on that feeling of positive attitude in their lives." – my old friend Author Unknown
I will live each day to the fullest with or without hair and thank God that I am ONE HOT GRANDMA!
DC260B2AD786001.jpgCHAPTER ONE
Just to Live
You have to believe that life will go on
with or without you.
You have to be able to reach out and
talk to someone, tell someone
that you are hurting and needing.
You need to have courage and know
that you can face each challenge
and greet each dawn with a smile and
a prayer and you need to laugh and cry
and have unshakeable faith and courage
- believing that your spring will come,
like the faith and courage of a crocus
that is blooming in the snow.
Sue
In October of 2012, I was re-diagnosed with cancer in my left lung, that was when I decided, not that life had dealt me a lousy hand, but if I stayed strong and played that hand betting my life against the odds, determined to win, even more determined that I would beat it, and that is what I vowed to do!
Yes, I have been afraid, I have cried, cursed, been depressed, but I am still strong, like a tea bag, I don’t show how strong I am until I’m in hot water. I really felt that after my third cancer surgery
