I'm Still Writing: A Man of Diverse Interests
()
About this ebook
In my autobiography “I’m Still Singing”, I recognized that
by 2013 Phil and I were no longer playing tennis, entertaining Gilbert and Sullivan operettas on cruise ships, or traveling to far-away places.
It is now 2014, another change has taken place. Phil, at the
tender age of 89, has decided to fully retire from arbitration.
Looking back 65 years, I recall vividly that my attraction to Phil was four-fold: his handsome good looks, his sense of humor, his intellect and the many interests held dear: birds, butterflies, classical music, astronomy, and ME!!!
He amazed me as he named a bird from its call, butterflies
from their colors, classical music compositions and composers from the first few bars played, and constellations and first magnitude stars. His focus on these topics has kept him an interested and interesting senior citizen.
This ability to be productive in the latter years is his legacy to our family.

PROLOGUE
What a Lucky Guy I am!
My wife Carol has inspired and encouraged me to write a legacy for our family through my participations in our post-retirement senior years.
Providing additional impetus is Nils A. Shapiro, Editor of the Boca Club News whose blazing headline within states Gilbert and Sullivan: a Forever Valentine in the Life of Broken Sound Club’s Dr. Phil and Carol Harris,
and the subtitle of this book.
As doors closed because of physical limitations I found ways to open others. Together, we have reinvented ourselves
as Carol’s friend Ellie Sylvan often says, to avoid the pitfalls of dissatisfaction with inactivity.
In 2013, we started a daily morning routine at the Broken Sound Club spa. First, we take advantage of our complementary access to juice, coffee and bagels. We socialize with friends and family there. After that, I do exercises on the apparatus in the gym and Carol takes aerobics classes which she enjoys greatly.
We are located within 10 minutes of Lynn University, the St. Andrews School and the Spanish River Church. We buy season tickets to the wonderful matinee classical music concerts offered at each location. In addition, we attend all the shows at the Stage Theater in Coral Springs.
Dinner with friends and family help make our Golden Years
shine brightly. Having our son Paul, our daughter-in-law Caryn, and our granddaughter Meryl very close by us further makes us truly blessed.
I am now 89 years old. This journal presents my involvement as elder citizen. The areas of my diverse interests are Arbitration, Gilbert & Sullivan, Punditry, Bird Lore and Navy League.
