    Tardigrades

Tardigrades are survivors. Twelve years ago (2007) they were exposed to outer space. It was not a pleasant experience. Some of these unusual guinea pigs (or more precisely, moss piglets) were shielded from the most intense ultraviolet radiation, but all had to face temperatures close to absolute zero. .Air pressure was virtually non-existent, and even isolated oxygen molecules were hard to find. Nevertheless, even though they spent a total of ten days in such a desolate environment, many survived their ordeal. They revived and lived, at least for a while.

As indicated above, some did not enjoy any protection from the ultraviolet radiation emanating from the sun.  These were not so fortunate. Only three survived, according to Wikipedia. All three were members of the same species: Milnesium tardigradum.

If cold is replaced with heat and a vacuum is replaced by intense pressure, tardigrades can still survive. According to Microbial
