Chapter 3   Where Are We Going?

    Dedication

There is no certain or particular person that this book is about to but I dedicate this book to all who need to have a secret in order to function in this society of fear.

I would also like to give much love to my oldest brother Charles Richard Quick.

I love you forever and always.

To my momma who has that endless unconditional love.

To my son William I hope you always follow your dreams and let God show you the way son.

To my family as a whole I dare not say all names it’s not enough paper!

Just know that I love you all!

Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here. The spiritual journey is the relinquishment, or unlearning, of fear and the acceptance of love back into our hearts. ~Marianne William

1 Corinthians 6:11 - And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (NIV)

I am not the author of the word, go to God for you.

    CHAPTER

    1

    What is this feeling?

I was running late as always. I didn’t mind though, I did it on purpose so I didn’t have to hear the deacons sing that same old dead song they sang every second Sunday. Besides I’m a PK (preacher’s kid) anyway I needed no excuses, it was fashionable and expected for me to be a little late. As I had figured, Deacon Brown was dragging out The Rough Side of the Mountain as always and the only person that seemed to get caught up was his wife.

I don’t know but it seems to me that he should have reached the top by now. So service continues to go on when the front doors swing open and in she walks. She had neck lined auburn hair with blonde highlights. She had on the prettiest cream and orange dress you could imagine with the matching hills ear rings, necklace, bracelet, rings, and anklets were glittering as she walked past the windows in the church making her way up the side with her parents and sister following behind.

They were all dressed to the T and they left a pleasant fragrance as they passed my pew. I couldn’t concentrate on service the rest of the day wondering who these people were and where did they come from with those nice threads. I guess neither could my brother Richard sitting in the pulpit like he was all holy.

If daddy knew what he was doing in the back seat of the Lincoln, Richard would not be anywhere near the pulpit. As I watched the usher hand the guy a visitor’s card and a pen, I noticed that she was looking at me as well. I quickly turned my head as if I was paying attention to the morning announcements, but I could still see her out the corner of my eye looking at me staring and then she turned her head to look at her sister and they both giggled and smiled as they turned to the front of the church. The usher walked back and got the card and pen from the guy and took it up to my dad.

After Sister Sheila finished with the morning announcements it was now time for my dad to get up. He always welcomed and acknowledged any new visitors and ministers when we have some which isn’t that often here. Most of the people here were born and raised here. Not too many people move here it is not the most exciting place to live.

As my father gave the history of the church, all eyes were on the new folks. I know I couldn’t wait to know what her name was and how old is she. I thought they must have money or something, look at how they are dressed. I kind of zoned out, as my mind raced with thoughts of where and who they were, until I heard now let us acknowledge our visitors come over the speakers.

He picked up the card and began to introduce the new folks to the church. We have joining us today, Dr. Rodney Birch, his wife Silvia, and his two daughters Clorissa and Dorothy from New York. They each stood up one by one as Pa called out their names. Her name was Clorissa.

What a beautiful name I thought as the church clapped and welcomed them into service. She turned around again and waved smiling at everyone. She seemed to be real nice, well her smile was at least. After service my mother invited the Birches and a few other church members over to our house for dinner.

When I heard the Birches accept the invitation I ran out the back door up the hill to the house. I couldn’t let them see my room as dirty as I had left it this
