About this ebook

There is no shortage of Yokai stories in Japan. Among the most popular Japanese creatures, there is the Kappa... This mysterious being who hides in rivers to catch his next victims!

Although a popular belief makes Kappa nice creatures, the testimonies and short stories compiled in this book will show you a new facet of these monsters.

Believe me, Kappa don't just like to eat cucumbers. It is often said that they are looking for a human prey or a horse that would get lost near their river. Beware of anyone who dares to show his buttocks to a Kappa! Fortunately, not all are so ferocious and cruel.

Through 140 short stories, tales, legends and testimonies, learn more about one of the most important creatures of Japanese folklore.

Beware! Some stories are not suitable for young people ...

Kappa, little stories and legends of Japan - kevin tembouret

    Preface

Kappa exists under different names, depending on the region in which it lives and on its appearance.

Sometimes resembling a monkey, a child, a turtle or a bird, Kappa is an integral part of Japanese life.

The following stories will show you the Kappa sometimes as a scary being and sometimes as a friendly creature. To each his version and especially to each his experience! The same story can vary between two regions or between two villagers. This obviously influences the vision that one can have of this creature.

Kappa is also a way to teach children to be careful when they go in the water. They are not safe from drowning! And then, to say that a Kappa likes cucumbers or catching buttocks ... It's not so innocent! Danger lurks at every water corner for children, women and warriors alike.
