A Handbook for Our Times: The Elements of Stress

The Elements of Style has been a beacon of wisdom for writers for the past hundred years, originally written and self-published in 1919 by Professor William Strunk, Jr. on the campus of Cornell University. The little book was content to slumber its days away on a shelf in the special collections section of the university’s library until Style was resurrected, revived, and reborn by former student and New Yorker literary illuminato E.B. White in 1957.

Sixtyish years later, it was only logical that the classic was due for yet another revision. This time written by New York Times bestseller Bob Eckstein and New Yorker cartoonist Michael Shaw, The Elements of Stress and the Pursuit of Happy-ish in this Current Sh*tstorm is a kind of handbook that attempts to relieve the world from all the stress we’ve been burdened with in 2020 by working and living by the creed: Things could not get any worse but they can get funnier. The following cartoons are from the book and drawn by the authors.
