Hiya all. Welcome to my little corner of amazon. Grab a cuppa, put your feet up and let me introduce myself. So, ever since I was a kid, I wanted to write for a living! Sure, all authors say that, but in my case it was very true. From the poorly structured short-stories of my final years at school, to my days as a performance poet in the early years of university. I always knew where my true love lay, though, in the rewarding pursuit of novel writing. I finished my first at about nineteen years old. Ok, it was pretty dire but hell, it was a start. That one I put aside and tried again, and again and again. After the fifth novel, I had something even I knew was a bit good! Perfected and polished! That novel was Ella’s Memoirs.Ok, so I had a book to publish. There was a slight problem though, I had no idea where to start! Traditional publishing was a scary thought, and “indie publishers made no money” or so I was told, and so had to put writing on a back-burner whilst they maintained a “normal” person job. So, like any good ostrich, I turned my back on the idea of publishing, buried my head in the sand, worked whatever jobs I could get and just wrote books in my spare time. Lots of books! In May 2014, with a backlog of nine novels, about five of which were publishable, I finally decided to look fate in the eye and give it a shot. I chose to indie publish as one thing I have never wanted to do was to take away the pleasure of writing by running my ever so crinkled, non-conforming babies of literature through the heavy press of traditional publishing. And here I found success. More success than I had thought possible!Ella’s Memoirs was a hit – I tried a 2 day free promotion on the guidance of some wonderous guru of internet forum fame, and then suddenly I was in the top 1000 free ebooks of that particular week. I was astounded, befuddled and just happy to soak it all in.As many indie authors can attest to, these things don’t always last, and whilst it is true that my next two books were both still well received, that little wave did recede somewhat. I became busier with university, moving on from my Psychology Degree and MSc to start, and then complete, my History Masters. Then to PhD which is still ongoing. The Blood of the Poppies was my second novel, released whilst I was still studying for my Psychology Msc – and to this day remains one of my favourite that I have ever written. Poppies was followed by The Black Marshes in 2018. Both might perhaps be best described as “a moderate success”.My fourth novel, then, The King’s Idiot, was released in 2019 and was my first in a new genre, being historical fantasy. Here, suddenly, it all came rushing back. The book signings, the interviews, people leaving fab reviews and asking me almost relentlessly for book two! I was contacted by subscription services with a view to distribution and finally, the dream seemed to be coming true.I guess you could say – to be continued....https://www.facebook.com/EmmaBarrettBrown/My novels - an eclectic mixture of fantasy, dark fantasy and supernatural romance.Ella’s MemoirsThe Blood of the PoppiesThe Black MarshesThe King’s IdiotDonor
