IN THE summer of 1939, with the threat of war looming, the Women’s Land Army - first around during the First World War - was reformed. By 1945, the WLA had grown to 80,000 members, both conscripts and volunteers.
The ‘Land Girls’ were not a military service, so uniform wasn’t mandatory. Women were issued with:
“…1 pair of corduroy jodhpurs 2 white collared [fawn] shirts 1 green pullover 1 coat, 2 pairs
