ew Zealand actor and marijuana advocate Lucy Lawless stars in the new film , which premiered in that country on September in an interview. Lawless plays Duke, calling her character a “local villain” who is putting the pressure on the trio. To her, the film is a throwback to the 1980s New Zealand action-adventure genre, and the movie’s main characters are highly relatable. “You get to go inside a Māori community and it’s charming and lush and there’s a bunch of underachievers—people who desire a lot but who just don’t know how to get it,” she said. Despite Lawless’ role in , she’s an outspoken advocate for cannabis in New Zealand, specifically in the realm of medical cannabis and decriminalization. The country recently reported the estimated value of its cannabis industry to be $1.5 billion, with approximately 74 metric tons of cannabis consumed each year.
