At this point, having mastered the structure and vocabulary in the previous books in the series, the young reader will be approaching 'functional literacy' and be not only "learning to read" but "reading to learn". As such, they will be able to enjoy learning the fascinating historical and scientific content presented in this final book in the series.

Lee and Pat had another very busy week. They did a lot of shopping and went to lots of shops. On Monday, they went shopping for food. They bought enough food for the week. Then, on Tuesday, they went to a pet shop with Daddy. Daddy bought a pet parrot for Pat, and some fish for Lee. Lee wanted to get a pet rat too, but that shop didn't have any. On Wednesday, they went to a bookshop with their teacher. In the bookshop, Pat saw a beautiful book all about parrots, and Lee looked for a book about rats and snakes. Lee really likes rats and snakes!
