Introduction
Our modern world has led us astray. We have been told for years that the key to true happiness is to buy more things. We need to fill up our lives and our homes with as many things as possible. We need to keep up with the Joneses and we just can’t be happy unless we have as many things as possible filling up our homes. And most of us have fallen for this lie. And all that this has done for us is make us severely in debt, keeps us away from our families and the things that we truly love in life, and makes us miserable.
Adopting a life of minimalism may be the answer that you are looking for when it comes to living a life that is truly happy. Many people have a lot of misunderstanding about what minimalism is all about. They assume this means that they have to go to work, come home, never purchase anything, and pretty much be as miserable as possible.
But the ideas that come with minimalism are not about living in poverty and feeling deprived all the time. it is more about separating out what you truly find valuable in your life, and then getting rid of everything else. If you truly love to learn and reading, you would get rid of the video games and other junk in your home and fill up your library. If you like to travel with your family, you will cut down on eating out and going out with friends in order to save up more money for those trips. If you just like to make memories with your kids and spouse, you may say no to other things to make this happen.
This guidebook is going to spend some time looking at the steps that you should take in order to add more minimalistic ideas into your life. We will first start out with some of the things that you should consider when you want to implement minimalism into your life and you want to make sure that your family is on board. Sometimes, it takes a bit of convincing to get others in your family to agree to help you, and this section will help you to see the results that you want from that work.
The second section of this guidebook will spend time talking about how you can start to declutter your home, keep it decluttered, the one in, one out rule, and how to decorate a home that will be considered minimalist. Then in the third section, you will be able to use the information to create one of your own minimalist budget. We will look at some of the basics with setting up the minimalist budget, how to get other family and friends to join with you, and more.
And then in the final section of this guidebook, we are going to spend some time talking about how to maintain the minimalist lifestyle that you have worked so hard for. This will provide you with all of the tips that you need to not only start with this new lifestyle, but also how to maintain it in a world that often tries to make you feel bad or like an outsider when you try to live in this manner.
Living a lifestyle that is minimalist does take some work, but you will find that it is so freeing and great for you overall. You will get to enjoy more of the things that make you happy, and you get so many benefits and freedom in the process. When you are ready to see what this minimalistic lifestyle can do for you, make sure to check out this guidebook to get started.
Part 1
Understanding the Basics of Minimalism
Chapter 1
What is Minimalism and Why Is It So Beneficial to My Life?
The first question that we need to look at here is what minimalism is. Many people have their own ideas about minimalism, but sitting down and describing what minimalism is actually all about. It is common for people to say that they are following the idea of minimalism when they intentionally try to live with only a few things, or the things that are really needed. But while this is a start to the process, there is really so much more
To start, minimalism is about intentionality. It is marked by a purpose, an intense intentionality, and a purpose from each person. When looking at its core, minimalism is all about an intentional promotion of the things that we really value the most, and the removal of everything that distracts us from that. It is a lifestyle that forces us to be more intentional about everything, which can really force more improvements in all the different parts of your life.
Modern culture has led us to believe the life that we need to accumulate things in order to have a good life. We need to hold onto as many possessions as possible, fill up our time and our homes as much as possible, and just have more. This is the idea that we can find all the happiness that we need at the mall or in a department store.
But anyone who has filled up their homes with objects can tell you that this is wrong. You can’t find happiness in owning more things and wasting money. This makes it difficult because you spend more time cleaning your home than it is worth, you waste money and have to pay off debts, and so much more. Minimalism is going to bring you some freedom from the idea that possessing is the best thing for you. It can stop you from being on the treadmill of consumerism and asks you to go out and find happiness elsewhere.
Instead of focusing so much on buying more things and spending a ton of money on items that you will probably just have to spend all your time fixing, picking up, or throwing away, you can use minimalism to focus on caring for your soul, enjoying the experiences in your life, and valuing all of your relationships.
Another thing that you will notice about minimalism is that it can give you some freedom from modern mania. This modern world is always moving at a feverish pace. We are always rushed, hurried, and stressed. Most people work a ton of hours in order to pay the bills, but paying the bills is impossible when we continue to purchase more things.
We often rush from one activity over to another, trying to multitask and get it all done in time. we try to stay in connection with others, but it’s always done online or through our phones, and it is hard to find strong relationships to help us feel complete.
With minimalism, you will find that you learn how to slow your life down and escape from the modern hysteria that most people are under to live in a world that is fast and stressful. With minimalism, you will
