ne of the most important deals in tractor history came in 1953 when the Massey-Harris company bought Harry Ferguson’s tractor business. For public relations reasons, both sides described the deal as a merger, but it was actually a takeover with Canada’s biggest farm equipment manufacturer buying the immensely successful British-based Ferguson tractor company.
