    INTRODUCTION

    LIKE MANY OTHERS, MY prayer life was a struggle for me. I would feel guilty and condemn myself and even hide from praying with other saints because I felt like I had failed. I thought that my tithing, good work, and my faithful attendance in the church would make up for the fact that my prayer life was not what it should be for someone like me who is committed to an immortal faith in Jesus. I tried to have devotion each time before I prayed and fell asleep while reading the first text. I was involved in group prayers in church, but that cannot substitute for the kind of intimacy I needed with the Lord, which comes through private and personal prayer.

    I know for sure that prayer is one of the three powerful instruments that we, as believers, have. The other two instruments are studying God's word, and fasting is only complemented by a life of constant and strong prayer. In the book of James 5:16, the Bible  says, The effective prayer of the righteous must benefit. This statement from James brings to our reminder that God hears and answers prayer. He loves it when we seek him, worship him, and recognize him. He loves to bless us, abundantly! He likes us to know him personally. Prayer affords us this. Prayer gives us a soothing peace and security that only our Father can give us. This peace, which goes beyond all understandings mentioned in Philippians 4: 7, is freely given to us by a God who loves us unconditionally.

    I wanted to find God through my prayer life, and I felt compelled to speak up. The first thing I did was my prayer life needed a makeover. The second was that I had to repent to God because I avoided prayer and excused myself for not praying consistently. Then, I wanted to learn to pray so that my prayers would be more effective.
