In Liszt’s case, the reworking of musical material was so much part of his compositional DNA that there are many examples of multiple versions of some of his major works. for voice and piano (1845-46), its piano solo transcription No 2 (1850), and the first of Five Klavierstücke dedicated to Olga von Meyendorff (1865).
