When Jack Henley left agricultural college in 1959 aged 20, he was destined to take over the running of the family farms in the Goudhurst area of the Weald of Kent.
At this time the Henleys were the largest private hop growers in the country along with 200 acres of top fruit plus arable and they also kept sheep, cattle and pigs. The main farm was the Spelmonden
