Africanism is not a new concept; it means different things to different people. In his submission to the discourse, late Nigerian political scientist Elechukwu Njaka wrote in the Cambridge University Press’ A Journal of Opinion (autumn, 1971) that the concept has varied components, including “arts, beliefs, culture, history, music, philosophy, politics, science and concepts such as nationalism and Pan-Africanism”.
