R50bn TRANSNET TENDER BATTLE

A lucrative R50 billion Transnet tender for the manufacture and supply of rails is at the centre of a legal dispute, with allegations that the bid evaluation and adjudication process was “hijacked by external forces” in the advanced stages of the bidding process.

Mpheni Patrick Dlomo, the chief executive of the Le-Moloko Consortium, one of the bidders, has approached the Johannesburg High Court to stop Transnet from awarding a new tender until the dispute around the original R50 billion tender is settled.
