    Introducing Our Time Is Now

    Stacey Abrams, the former legislator of Georgia has written her latest book titled Our Time Is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America. She narrowly lost the election of Governor in 2018 and is considered a strong contender through the Democratic Party for the 2020 Vice Presidential election. The author wrote the book to raise awareness of the extreme importance of voting and how and why voting rights are suppressed.

    Abrams begins her book by referring to a past incident that had occurred in 1968. It was a year of great tumult in U.S. history wherein Richard Nixon wished to win the presidential election by promising to restore law and order. Abrams' grandmother, Wilter Abrams, was afraid to cast her first-ever vote in Mississippi. It had been three years since the Voting Rights Act had been passed; however, Wilter wasn't sure that the law would improve black families' conditions in any way. Wilter had always been afraid of the police and she was suspicious that they wouldn't let her vote. Abrams' grandfather had been angry with his wife and reminded her of the sacrifices endured by black families, including theirs, to gain the voting rights. The author's grandmother found courage in her husband's words and set out to cast her vote. However, her grandmother wasn't
