Rice found not guilty of the murders of his family by reason of insanity was released back into society after spending only five years at Connecticut's Whiting Institute for the criminally insane.     In May 1969 10 year old Mary Mount disappeared in New Canaan CT. Her body was found weeks later. No person has ever been charged in the crime. In Dec 1970 John Rice murdered four members of his family in the same town. The author, whose family lived in New Canaan at the time and knew the families, tells the stories of these tragedies and the police investigations. Grey examines the possibility that Rice killed Mount.
