- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5There's gentle humor ("right this very minute" for items that each takes months to prepare), richly colored scenes of happy families indoors and outdoors, and even a nice font in this book.Farm-to-table is a familiar topic to kids in agricultural communities. However, even for mine, who has helped in different types on farms and in gardens since she could walk, the book is a valuable read. The farmers are depicted in this as more diverse than what's currently seen in marketing and in old books about farming. We need that diversity. Everyone can help make food for households. Also notable is that children were shown only in safe activities, not working close to mechanical equipment. Appropriate safety gear such as gloves and hats were used. While the second-person perspective ("your plate") is slightly awkward for discussing allergens, I like how the book is clear about its audience: kids with enough privilege to eat healthy food every meal and for snacks, the kids who might take that food for advantage, and who have the resources to join in a community food production effort.
