    Broiler chicken is a kind of chicken bred specifically to convert feed into flesh (meat) as against those that lay eggs. This type of chicken matures very early (between 6 weeks and 8 weeks) depending on several factors put into consideration amongst which are: good source of bird (day old chicks), brooding, feed, light, water, sanitation and others which will be discussed in this book.
    This book has been simplified as much as possible for easy understanding by everyone reading it and therefore you are not going to encounter as many technical jargons as you will do in a poultry manual. This is because the ultimate aim is to provide the readers,in the simplest terms, with practical and practicable guides in raising broiler chicken (meat chicken) profitably.Readers who are already in the business and who perhaps have been facing one challenge or the other in the process will be encouraged not to give up. They will learn that it is possible to make a success of it.
    In writing this book, the author has brought into bear his own and other people’s vast and practical experiences and so, this is a practical manual that is meant to guide even a novice and give the assurance that broiler production is a profitable enterprise indeed.
    I will want you to liken a broiler chick, especially a day-old, to a human baby in the aspect of care. You will discover that while a baby is still sucking the mother’s breast milk, you can tell from the baby’s physical appearance among others whether the mother is eating healthily or otherwise. As such, the importance of quality feed and good management practices are very imperative for a successful broiler chicken production.
    At this juncture, I am assuring the reader once again that with the right inputs in place, a successful outcome is guaranteed from this aspect of poultry production.
