About this series

He must save the past, for the peoples’ future...

It is 1943, and Naples has been looted by the Allies and Axis powers alike, its priceless art treasures coveted by some of the most corrupt criminal minds in Europe.

The country swarmed with bands of partisans, who included communists, genuine patriots, escaped POWs and ex-soldiers of the Italian army. Alongside them, but operating solely for gain, were gangs of bandits.

Sergeant Tom Pugh was in Field Security, because he had spent three years in Italy before the war. He was now entrusted with a delicate and difficult task – to save the paintings of Italian master, Detto Banti. Not quite what Pugh thought the war was about – but dangerous enough for anyone…

An authentic and gripping WWII espionage thriller, perfect for fans of Alistair MacLean, Jack Higgins and John le Carré.

One brave task force will take on an army. It is the summer of 1940 – and Italian forces have entered British Somaliland. While this invasion is in progress, a small party of British soldiers is on its way to destroy a supply dump in the desert hills. Strafed by Italian planes, the young lieutenant in command is killed – leaving behind four non-commissioned soldiers and the civilian driver. Cut off behind enemy lines – their radio dead, their chances of escape few – they decide to utilise the arms dump and fight a daring rearguard. Led by the mysterious Corporal Harkaway, and aided by local warring tribes, they create an extraordinary fighting unit whose skill and ferocity will play havoc with the enemy. An extraordinary tale of WWII, of a rogue unit versus seemingly insurmountable odds, ideal for fans of Alistair MacLean, Jack Higgins and David Black.

A fighting team with a very special difference... In times gone by, the looting didn’t start until the foe was vanquished! But in North Africa nobody bothered to hang around for the enemy to retreat. With half of Egypt waiting open-armed for anything going, people stole whatever wasn’t screwed down – and flogged it on the Cairo black market. The British… The Italians… and Rommel’s Afrika Corps: they all used each other’s captured weapons, stores, vehicles – even their uniforms. This is the enthralling story of an unlikely group of fighting men – the Desert Ratbags – a concert party stranded behind enemy lines. Their very special skills, from pilfering to stage performing, help them not only to survive, but also to see a little action for themselves. An enthralling, suspenseful tale of WWII, perfect for fans of Alistair MacLean, David Black and Jack Higgins. Praise for Max Hennessy ‘Mr Harris is a master storyteller’ Sunday Mirror
