DEAR PARENTS . . .

THE closing of schools brought the daily routine to an abrupt end for millions of kids – gone was the camaraderie of the classroom, the thrill of sports matches, the excitement of social events, the rush of winning an award.

For parents it was a double shock: not only were their children facing uncertainty but the onus of education suddenly fell on their shoulders.

Grade 7 and matric students may be heading back to class now but for the in-between grades, school is still weeks away.

As the cloud of Covid-19 continues to hang over everything, many schools across the country have been writing letters of encouragement to parents.
