About this ebook

A pair of NIghtmares have run away from home, the Underworld of Hades. It's time to create a love match for other Nightmare paired siblings to feed. The rancher didn't know what hit him when the new veterinarian showed up to examine an injured filly that showed up in his yard. A new patient she'd never visited, he met her with a gun and an attitude. So much for a friendly Texas greeting. As only Nightmares can do, the filly brought the two mismatched people together. This oasis of love was perfectly executed. The rancher and the vet come together with sparks that only burn hotter. The combustion is exquisite and the love will last for all time.

I've written since I could hold a pencil, and loved to read before I was five. It's no wonder all those words churning around my head found their way onto to page. My hard drive filled up in 2000. So my husband told me to publish. I did print the stories out and farm them out to friends. Who ganged up on me and I jumped into the publishing world.I retired from HR in the middle of publishing, learned what I was doing (for that moment in time), and found a critique group of teachers. I've learned so much from them and been dragged out of my writing room for conventions and writer weekends.I love to travel with my husband and we still have a bit more ahead. My stories come out of these experiences. Some from the military as I roamed the coastal towns with him when the Navy moved us from base to base. I'm a gypsy by nature and write paranormal romantic erotic stories because it's easier to mask real people behind snouts and fangs.

    CHAPTER ONE

It isn’t going to work. They ambled amid the trees that lined the manicured yard. The sun had set long ago, but they’d just now snuck out of their pasture and made the trek to the rancher’s home.

Sure it is. All I have to do is limp into the yard, she assured him. This early in the game her confidence level was high. It echoed in her telepathic reply.

You’re going to get caught. Her partner shook his head, their mental communication silent in the night.

He always said the same thing when they teamed up. Not if you don’t tell a soul. The even four-beat cadences halted as the horses stopped at the edge of the yard. Keep quiet. When the door opens, slip back to the stable. I’m sure I’ll be home tomorrow.

Trouble, I tell you, he warned her again. She’d always been the stronger one, the leader, and his idol. This time she’d come up with a plan sure to get them both recalled home and locked up.

Hush. The horse moved into the lit circle of the porch light and held one foot above the ground as though it was injured. She whinnied, letting the sound draw out until she finished with a snort. She took another few halting steps and swished her long tail. Another light brightened the window of the house seconds before the door opened, just as she’d expected.

The male stepped onto the porch and took one look at the injured horse. His gaze swept the yard. The gun he held steady as he searched. When he found nothing but the animal watching him, he cradled the gun in his elbow and moved down the steps to the horse’s side.

What happened to you, little beauty? He ran his hand down her shoulder, feeling tension in the muscle. Nothing is broken, right? He gently squeezed her leg, going below her knee.

While the touch was warm and felt good, she had to keep up the pretense. She jerked from his hold.

Hold on, missy. I think you have a sprain or tendon pull. You need to rest a bit. He straightened and glanced around the area again. Come along to the barn. I can see you better in the light. We’ll get you a meal. Maybe a soak will do you good. He took her mane and tugged her around.

    She went willingly.

Her companion waited out of view of the human. Shaking his head, he moved farther into the brush that hid him. You got this far. His mental tone was dire as he walked close to the edge of the yard.

I’m going to get them together, she told him with a snort as the rancher led her into the barn.

You keep thinking that. I’m heading for home. He turned, and in a few strides the flames of his hooves brightened before they disappeared. Good luck with everything. He couldn’t resist the parting shot, but deep down he hoped she’d make this work.

Thank you. She turned her full attention to the man at her side as he started looking her over in brighter light.

I don’t see anything. Not obvious, anyway. How about I get you settled and call the doc in the morning. He led her into a stall that was already prepared. The hay was deep and the water fresh. It was almost as if the rancher had been expecting her.

I’ll pour you oats and let you rest. I’d tell you to behave, but you seem to know exactly what a barn and stall are. The rush of oats into the feed bucket was loud. She nodded, her mane flicking through the air. Her last feed had been at least ten hours ago. The oats smelled so fresh and tasty that she couldn’t wait.

Get some rest. I’ll see to you first thing in the morning.

She maintained her manners until he’d closed the door and turned out the big lights in the ceiling. Left in the semi darkness, she buried her nose in the oats. She paused a moment and her mind sought the touch of her sibling. You are so missing a yummy dinner.

Enjoy it. I’ve got better fodder here.

Easy, boy I’m not trying to hurt you. I just need to check out the cuts on your legs. Danika knelt in the sawdust. She hated the use of ground wood shavings as footing in barns and stalls. The dust often coated open wounds and caused trouble for a veterinarian.

The colt quieted as his mother hovered close by. Danika lifted his right front leg and tested the stretch and pull of flesh against her stitching. Most of the stitches had pulled free and she removed a couple loose threads with her fingers.

There’s no sign of infection, Mr. Sutherlin. He’s free to play with the others. I’m sure he learned his lesson about barbed wire. She rubbed the colt’s head.

I know I should take it down, but it slows predators.

You might want to look into getting a few donkeys. Danika wiped her hands then packed her bag. She straightened and took an apple flavored treat from her jeans pocket. She fed it to the youngster.

    Donkeys?

They’re great protectors. They occupy the same pasture with your horses. What they do for their upkeep is attack wolves and coyotes. She dried her hand on her jeans.

You don’t say? The rancher scratched his head. I’d heard something about that but dismissed it. He led the horses to the corral and opened the gate, letting the mare lead her colt into the small yard. "You know how people talk. Half the time you
