Achieve What You Want in Life - Michael Dillon F. S. S. M. Ph. D. (Hon)
section.
CHAPTER ONE: THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND
Every reader of this book has the power to build and create the life they desire. By using the power of your own mind, you can create powerful imagery, frequently called visualisation, together with positive thoughts and feelings and do so with persistence and purpose as an active process for change. If you mirror within yourself that which you truly want to influence your life, you can do away with false limitations you have placed upon your positive development in the past, leaving those limitations in the past where they belong. Imagine how you will feel, when you are certain that you have changed all the things you wanted to change about you and your life, with belief and conviction, instead of continuing with all that old past uncertainty and lack of belief in yourself - so you can now say, I can do it.
Change should into could, and try into I will do it!
The Subconscious; A Powerful Support for Change
To change your behaviour you must change the way you think. Being unable to make use of your subconscious mind constructively and positively can stand in the way of becoming the person you want to be. Because your habits are controlled by your subconscious mind, your conscious choice to change negative habits presents a difficult challenge. You can resolve to change those aspects of yourself that you see as an obstacle in achieving your full potential, but then your subconscious thinking directs you to repeat your past behaviour and way of thinking, reinforcing past experiences of failure.
The very act of attempting consciously to solve what is fundamentally a subconscious mind problem can actually make the matter worse. There can be hardly anybody who has not experienced wanting to change in some way or other and not being successful in doing so.
Why is your subconscious mind so resistant to change? There are clear indications that behaviour and ways of thinking, learned and reinforced over long periods of time, become part of your emotional makeup, which is the element in your subconscious thinking that is most resistant to conscious attempts to change.
The normal way you are aware of your subconscious thinking is in dream states, either daydreams or at night. Your subconscious mind is also active when you visualise, that is create pictures on the screen of your mind with your eyes closed. It is at work, too, when you engage in habitual behaviour (often with that perpetual internal voice or inner dialogue as it is called).
The activity of your subconscious mind is much faster than your conscious mind. It does its own thing, completely outside your conscious control, without you having made any real conscious choice. However, its job is to protect you, to keep you safe and secure, it wants to be on your side, but at the same time is impervious to adult reasoning and logic. If you don’t tell it what you want it to do, it will never know.
Subconscious Mind Exercises
The subconscious mind exercises in this book help you to re-programme and change your subconscious mind thinking in a way it can understand. When you do that it can be a powerful ally in helping you to achieve a successful and happy life.
Your subconscious mind is always on the alert and waiting to know how you want to be as a person. How you want to feel, behave and what you desire to achieve. Unless you regularly make it clear how you want it to help you and in a way it can understand, it will just do its best in a haphazard way. As soon as you open up a positive connection with the subconscious then you can move towards directing what it does and how it can assist you. The only other thing needed is persistence of purpose. It needs to be programmed and shown time and time again how you want it to fulfil your desires.
Gary Player, the famous South African golfer, one of the most successful golfers of all time, when told by a journalist he was a lucky golfer, replied. It’s funny you know, the more I practice the luckier I become.
Your subconscious mind can assist you in making many personal breakthroughs and gain insights that could never be achieved with conscious thinking alone. It can give you constant, caring support and unfailing wise advice when you know how to make contact with it in a direct and positive way.
You could spend your entire life without even knowing what you can achieve by unleashing the full potential of your subconscious capabilities. After many years as a practising professional stress manager I have witnessed people make very positive changes in their lives. However those people came to me for help with specific problems. This book works in a generic way so the basic mental resources needed for a happy and successful life are dealt
