Introduction
Welcome to the Social Skills Workbook!
First things first — I recommend you also buy Small Talk,
the guide that serves as a companion to this book, to get a deeper reading on the concepts we will introduce in these pages. You’ll gain a better understanding of what to say to people as you overcome your shyness or anxiety.
However, do not fret if you only have this Workbook! You can still get started learning about how to improve your social skills. We’ll discuss the ideas behind these exercises; they just won’t be explored as in-depth as in the Small Talk
book itself.
This book is also probably better filled out in the paperback version, but if you buy the ebook version, you can do the exercises in a notebook or on separate sheets of paper.
This journal focuses less on reading and more on writing and practicing your social skills out there in the real world! If that makes you nervous, don’t worry, we’ll build up slowly, so you feel ready for each new exercise.
We’ll explore conversing and meeting new people from many different vantage points. In these pages, you’ll find prompts about the importance of mindset, the way our bodies react to nervousness, how to be a better listener, what to say, how to end conversations with grace, body language, small talk for dating, and how to keep improving once you’ve finished these exercises.
Even if some of us are natural introverts, human connection is essential to a fulfilling, healthy life. I hope with the help of this workbook, you can achieve more confidence in your social interaction, no matter where you’re starting from.
Your timeline for your journey through this workbook is self-guided. It is laid out with one chapter and exercise per week. However, you can take things more slowly as you feel comfortable, or skip ahead or do the activities
